Animation workshop27 August 2010 Venue: Funded by: The workshop was run by animator, voice-over artist and stand-up comedian Tom Hillenbrand (who has previously undertaken similar workshops for clients including the British Film Institute, Tate Britain, The Barbican Centre and currently Westminster Archives). A group of children from the Medway area, aged between 7 and 12 attended the session, working in three groups. They covered the fundamentals of stop-frame animation - from the essential planning stage using storyboard techniques, all the way through three animation techniques - plasticine models or 'claymation', paper cut-outs and traditional stop-motion using toy figures. The three groups each made a short animation using these techniques and each participant received a certificate of achievement and a copy of the films on DVD to inspire them further. The feedback from this event has been extremely positive: "Thanks very much again for asking me to run the workshop. It was a real pleasure to work with all concerned. " Feedback from the participants included: "really liked it because it was fun and inventive." "enjoyed making the background." "enjoyed making figures move and seeing how real films are made. It was really interesting." "I liked it that we learned how to do animation, it was a fun way of teaching. It has inspired me to make more films at home." |
"I really liked the workshop as it was something I have never tried before. I enjoyed watching my animation on DVD and would recommend to a friend because it was good fun." One of the children who participated |
